How does Broadview Materials measure the impact of its products?
We apply the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to evaluate the environmental impact of a product across all stages of its life cycle. Our analysis focuses on key indicators such as carbon footprint, water footprint, and primary energy demand. Among these, we place particular emphasis on CO₂ emissions.
What have you achieved in terms of greenhouse gas/CO2 emissions?
Between 2023 and 2024, we achieved a 12% reduction in cradle-to-gate carbon emissions at Group level. Looking at the broader period from 2019 to 2024, this reduction reaches 39%.
What do you do to lower your footprint?
Roughly half of our carbon footprint stems from the production process, and the other half from raw materials. Our reduction strategy is therefore built on two pillars: improving energy and material efficiency, and replacing the most impactful inputs. In terms of production, we have implemented measures to increase energy efficiency, reduce material waste, and transition to electricity sourced entirely from renewables across nearly all sites. On the raw materials side, we have developed technologies that reduce the use of high-impact inputs by incorporating bio-based alternatives. We are also adopting production methods that maintain performance while using fewer resources, and we continue to invest in research to replace fossil-based materials with bio-based options.
Can your products be considered sustainable?
Our products are predominantly made of renewable materials, with wood fibres accounting for 50% to 90% of their content. Bio-based materials have a significantly lower environmental impact compared to fossil-based alternatives. Moreover our materials are durable. Long-lasting products reduce the need for replacement, which in turn minimises resource consumption, emissions, and waste generation.
What does it mean that your products are durable?
This means they are highly resistant to wear and maintain consistent quality over time, reducing the need for replacement. This extended lifespan helps preserve natural resources, lowers the environmental impact associated with manufacturing, and reduces the volume of waste generated.
Are any of Broadview Materials products certified for sustainability?
Yes, many of our products hold certifications such as EPDs and Greenguard, as well as responsible forest management scheme certifications. For detailed information on certifications specific to each product line, please refer to the official websites of FENIX, Arpa, Homapal, Formica, and Westag.
